The parallel ideas that can be derived from the connection between the Afghanistan War and the relationship between Rasheed, Mariam, and Laila are very similar. The Afghanistan War was full of violence, bloodshed, and chaos. This war not only affected the Afghani people physically, but emotionally as well. Likewise, the relationship that Rasheed had with Mariam and Laila was also full of violence. Rasheed would abuse these ladies starving and beating them until near death. His actions toward Mariam and Laila were not only cruel but unjust. Rasheed's actions towards these woman left lasting scars on them physically and emotionally, grant it that Mariam had lost her front teeth and that Laila was always viciously reminded as to why she married Rasheed. The war and the relationships were both detrimental, neither of them produced positives outcomes for the lives of the Afghani people or for the lives of Mariam and Laila as well. In the end both of these situations ended in violence just like they had started, Mariam eventually killed Rasheed and then was eventually killed herself. After the war, Afghanistan was ruled by the feared Taliban and shortly after America declared war on them, resulting in more violence, bloodshed, and chaos.
